In Defense Of Posting.
Before I begin, I’d like to thank Red Lobster Blog for bringing the video I posted yesterday to my attention. I forgot to give him credit the other day. Now, onto why a few of you are idiots and most of you get it.
When I posted the video I did yesterday, I thought you all would get it. I thought you all would understand why I did it. I have received dozens of emails in the 24 hours since I put it up and all but a few of them are thanking me for finding it and affirmations that they are indeed spamming the hell out of this lady on her YouTube account.
But, for the 95 percent of you servers and/or right-minded individuals that nodded your head as you watched this lady try and reasonably justify exactly why she left “eight dollars and some change,” there were a few nasty emails. Here are my favorite quotes verbatim:
“You are a racist~!!” (By posting a video?)
“you just SUCK at serving andf you’re trying to pawn it off on the blacks!!!1!” (What am I trying to pawn off? And I think they prefer to be called “colored people” as the woman so eloquently explained in her YouTube video.)
“I dare you to say that to my face…” (Say what? What did I say exactly? From what I can tell, the woman on the video is the only one saying anything.)
For the dimwitted and unintelligent, I will spell it out for you:
I posted that video to prove to you that I was right. That I was completely justified in trying to advise people on how to tip. That it is so much deeper than bad service or not refilling drinks exactly on time. It is a social undercurrent.
I don’t hate the woman on the video. Societal tipping rules (and societal rules that govern our dining experience in general) are learned or not learned. It’s not as simple as “blacks are stingy so they’ll tip less” or “rednecks spend all their money on guns and trucks so they don’t have any money to get anything more expensive than the chicken dinner”.
She is a product of her environment and cannot help it any more than the black bear that tears off my right arm for going into its forest. She was taught from an early age (by her parents probably) that tipping is not as necessary as it truly is. She has also never been a waitress or worked at a job that lends itself to relying on tips (as is evidenced very clearly by her lack of respect and contemptuous behavior towards the server). I can’t fault her for not knowing societal tipping rules.
What I can fault her (and the many of you that cried “racist” or “bigot” when I posted my four-part guide entitled “How To Be Served”) is the purposeful ignorance. I put that guide up not to appeal to the backwoods, hillbilly, KKK side of me. Rather I did it to clue all of you in who may not know that 7-10% just will not cut it.
My reason for asking you to spam her with comments may have been unclear, so I apologize for that. I’m trying to be constructive here. Amidst the profanity and middle-fingers, she asked a genuine question: “Was I wrong?”
I want you to spam her with cool-headed responses of “Yes” and then explain why. I did. And I hope the next time she orders almost 200 dollars worth of food, she tips more than 4%.

How many emails did you receive?
I wonder because I only see 13 (at this time) comments on your previous entry, and am curious to why someone would go to the extra effort to send you an email as opposed to leaving you a comment.
Perhaps they already knew how fucking stupid their responses where ahead of time and did not wish to be ridiculed by the rest of us?

The “race card” will be always be played by those who fail to take into consideration all aspects of certain situations, no matter how non-volatile they are!
The woman in question should have stayed undercover as the village idiot, not exposed herself (literally as well as figuratively) as she did!

Ahhh I can’t believe that after watching that woman go off on her tangent, somebody was still stupid enough to take the side of the woman who was proudly proclaiming she is a bad tipper.

Do you realize that she said NOTHING about his service? 90% of the time, if service is bad, that is the first thing out of the shitty-tipper’s mouth. Funny, I heard not a single “he took forever to refill our drinks” or “he sneered and spoke down to us the whole time.”. From both a server’s and manager’s perspective, this woman was entirely out of line. I bet her sister is wicked pissed at her, also, because being a server she knows damned well how it feels to get stiffed like that. The simple fact of the matter is, if you can’t afford both the meal and the tip, then go to your beloved Taco Bell instead.
Ignorance is only bliss until your now-famous ass is called out on it.

No reason to appologize. She was a stupid whore and she will hopefully never be able to eat out again. If one posts something that ignorant, one needs to be schooled on it. Case Closed.
I say you send a mass e-mail to all of the people that had issues with it telling them to “sit and spin”.

UPDATE: Ms.Thomas has cleared all her comments, yet appears to remain mute about the undeniable and all-but-unanimous uproar at her behavior. I say all-but-unanimous simply for the fact that I saw maybe one “you tell ‘em girl!” in the whole lot of 110+ comments that were on the page all but a week ago. I believe the world has proven her wrong.
Shall we be expecting a rebuttal video? Oh, do I hope so.
