    Organic Food, Shmorganic Food

The other night at work, it was slow as usual so me and one of the chefs, Mike, decided to raid the server’s fridge for some cereal. Finding only Kasha whatever cereal, I let him have it. Give me Honey Nut Cheerios ANY day.

As Mike was trying to enjoy his disgustingly healthy cereal, one of our waitresses, Amanda, decided to bring up a random point to argue:

Amanda: “You know, milk is so bad for you.”
    Mike: “Uh…ok?”
Amanda: “No, seriously. The only other creature that drinks milk is an 800-pound calf. And they only drink it when they’re a baby! We’re drinking that stuff into our 50’s. The only milk that’s good for you is organic milk made with rice or soy.”
Mike: “And where exactly are we supposed to get our calcium?”
    Amanda: “That’s not the…”
Me: “And drinking the milk in moderation, like a glass a day, is actually very healthy for you. As long as it’s skim or 1% at the most and not 2% or whole milk.”
    Amanda: “But that isn’t…”
Mike: “Haven’t a lot of organic food companies been getting in trouble lately because their products aren’t 100% organic and have been causing health problems in adults such as high cholesterol and heart failure?”

BAM! Organic food? Yea, okay…you have fun living until you’re 120 being a frickin’ vegan, I’ll take my burger medium. Oh yea, and I want the onion rings instead of the fries.

At least we’ll have fun. Hope that rice patty tastes as good as my WhatABurger and large onion rings.

Um, what cows do you know that produce 100% milk fat? The milk that cows produce has 3-4% milk fat, the rest is the actual milk. And milk fat is actually good for you. It has nutrients. What’s bad for you about milk is the growth hormones that are given to the cows so they’ll produce more milk. Organic milk is milk without these hormones, and go figure, is usually whole milk. (which is 3-4% milk fat, not 100%).

      Whitney, you’re awesome.

everything in moderation has consistently been proven to be the best theory, so shut the fuck up you nuts and twiggers and shut up about my good tasting food.

    6. Ryan Says:

Whitney and Stef, the milk you buy from the grocery store is almost 95% water. That sounds pretty organic to me.

    7. Chris Says:

Whitney is annoying, but yeah, 100% milkfat would be butter, and if any cow is shooting butter out of its teats they prolly got one of them STDs.

This reminds me of a quote in a Garfield comic I read once:
“The meek may inherit the earth but until then the mighty are going to have a pretty good time.”
I may not live to 100 but at least I will have lived life to it’s fullest…well…fullest to me anyway. LOL!!!

Okay people…I do research with dairy cattle and here’s how it actually works. Whole milk is 87% water, 3.25% protein, and 3.8% fat on average, with other components like minerals or ash making up the majority of the rest. It is an excellent source of calcium, vitamins, and protein. The recommended dairy intake of 3 servings a day is beneficial as part of a healthy diet. I’m talking like cheese and yogurt and milk..not ice cream. Here’s the part that people always get wrong: the “hormones” we give cattle are actually designed to improve the efficiency with which the cow can take the calories that she’s eating and put that towards milk synthesis, which takes a ton of energy. This does NOT increase the level of homones in the milk. That’s right…there’s hormones already there! Because it’s milk! We produce more growth hormone in our saliva than we could EVER give to a cow. So, at the end of the day, while I do enjoy a glass of chocolate soy milk from time to time (it goes amazingly well with Baileys), cows have been designed over centuries to feed us. That’s their job. Let them do it.

      No.
Where on earth have you been getting YOUR news, The Onion? And products from plant sources, like soymilk, do not contain cholesterol.

To the previous commenter, cows have not been designed over the centuries to feed us; if they had, we wouldn’t have to sanitize the crap out of milk and milk products before selling it. And if you think drinking milk is so natural, go suckle the teat of a cow at the typical factory farm (where the vast majority of dairy products come from in developed countries), which cannot move or see sunlight in its tiny crate and lives in its own shit and is constantly impregnated only to have its baby ripped away from it immediately after birth to be slaughtered, if a male, or to be forced into the sick cycle its mother was forced into, if female. Then tell me how natural it is.
Have fun dying slowly in front of your young grandchildren because your body couldn’t handle all the saturated fat and cholesterol you fed it.

And if the mod deletes this comment then he has no balls and needs to open his eyes to the reality of the world.
